Quality and Certifications

In 2009, IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza began the process of implementing an internationally recognized Quality Management System, fully aware of its importance and the necessity of achieving such certification.

Since 2010, the IRCCS has been certified for Quality Management under the ISO 9001 standard. Certification is the formal declaration by an Accredited Certification Body that a product, process, service, activity, or facility complies with specific regulations or standards that outline precise requirements. In particular, the pathway adopted by our organization, in collaboration with Bureau Veritas, is ongoing and involves regular assessments and the identification of areas for improvement, with annual audits ensuring continued compliance with the standard. This certification and maintenance process continuously drives the monitoring, analysis, and enhancement of the IRCCS’s operations, supporting the systematization of decision-making processes and structured evaluations based on common rules and reference standards. The Quality certification process is divided into three fundamental steps:

  • Certification Audit: Conducted in two stages. The first stage focuses on reviewing the documentation of the management system, transitioning from planning to implementation. The second stage evaluates the conformity of the Quality Management System (QMS) within the scope of its application.
  • Surveillance Audit: These audits are conducted to ensure the continued compliance of the Quality Management System.
  • Recertification Audit: These audits assess the QMS's performance over the entire certification period, including a comprehensive review of documentation and a full system evaluation.

Seeking and achieving Quality certification represents, for our IRCCS, a catalyst for continuous improvement in managing its operations. It enables the organization to meet regulatory obligations while implementing proactive policies focused on social responsibility and transparency.

At Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, the commitment to Quality has become a cornerstone responsibility, effective Quality Management being fundamental to building and maintaining a trust-based, long-lasting relationship with patients, securing public confidence, and ensuring the organization's sustainability.
