Cancer Biomarkers Unit


The Cancer Biomarkers Unit integrates genomic, computational, and functional approaches to analyze the cancer transcriptome and identify tumor biomarkers. These efforts aim to advance early cancer diagnosis and the development of targeted therapies. With the advent of the post-genomic era, it has become possible to uncover the molecular profiles of various cancer types. Transcriptome analysis has revealed which genes are expressed in cancer cells and how they function, exposing the existence of molecular subtypes within tumors that appear identical. These subtypes correlate with distinct prognoses and varied treatment responses. Furthermore, specific genetic and epigenetic alterations have been identified that differentiate these molecular subtypes and define their functional behaviors, providing valuable insights into their levels of aggressiveness.

As a result, cancer transcriptome analysis represents a powerful strategy for uncovering the molecular mechanisms driving cancer progression and for developing innovative tumor biomarkers.
