Tissue engineering unit


The Tissue Engineering and Nanomedicine Unit boasts state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and a multidisciplinary team of experts with backgrounds in physics, chemistry, materials science, cellular biology, and medicine.

At the heart of the Unit’s mission is the development of translational research projects in tissue engineering, working in collaboration with hospitals, universities, and research centers to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical application. By integrating multiple disciplines, the Unit addresses the increasingly complex challenges of biomedical science.

The Unit’s research focuses on computational modeling, the synthesis and post-processing of innovative biomaterials, and their evaluation through in vitro and in vivo testing. A key area of investigation is the development of nanostructured scaffolds for tissue engineering in the central nervous system. These scaffolds are designed to emulate the extracellular matrix of the nervous system, fostering tissue regeneration and the repair of damaged neural structures.
