It also treats rare non-malignant disorders such as Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) and Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) using state-of-the-art therapies. In the Day Hospital and Day Service, the unit administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and transfusion support with blood derivatives.
At the outpatient clinic, patients receive initial consultations, follow-up visits after treatment, and long-term survivor care. The Division’s clinical activities are supported by a cutting-edge laboratory equipped for: Cytology, Flow cytometry with 8- and 10-fluorescence platforms, Traditional cytogenetics, Molecular cytogenetics (FISH), Chimerism studies using STR and FISH techniques, Qualitative and quantitative molecular biology (PCR, Sanger sequencing, and NGS).
For research purposes, the laboratory specializes in Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) detection through NGS, mass cytometry (viSNE), and RNA analysis for studying specific proteins in T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL). The Scientific Trial Office oversees approximately 100 clinical and biological research protocols, offering patients access to cutting-edge therapies not yet available in the National Health System (SSN).
The Division is deeply integrated into all major national and international scientific networks and plays an active role in the Apulian Hematology Network.
The inpatient unit includes 23 beds, managing over 1,500 hospitalizations annually, with approximately 25% of patients coming from outside the region. The Day Hospital and outpatient clinic provide care for more than 40 patients daily.
