The Complex Operative Unit of Obstetrics and Gynecology, located on the 4th floor of the monumental Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza facility, provides inpatient care and support for pregnant women. It also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and oncological gynecological pathologies, utilizing the most advanced techniques currently available.
Clinical activities are delivered through both standard inpatient services and Day Surgery/Day Service programs, with highly specialized areas addressing the distinct needs of each subspecialty.
The Complex Operative Unit accompanies women throughout pregnancy, providing comprehensive support during childbirth, and performs a full range of gynecological surgeries using cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art equipment.
The unit operates two surgical theaters daily, from Monday to Friday, performing approximately 2,000 surgical procedures each year.
Specifically, the COU focuses on:
- Childbirth support;
- Prenatal diagnostics;
- Ultrasound diagnostics for gynecological pathologies;
- Delivery room management;
- Benign gynecological pathologies;
- Oncological gynecological pathologies;
- Endometriosis;
- Urogynecology;
- Cervical and vaginal pathologies;
- Female endocrinology.

For Postpartum Stay
